ACT

The ACT is a curriculum-based examination and is considered by the vast majority of colleges to be an alternative to the SAT. If a college says they will accept either test, they are considered equally. The ACT has four sections: English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science Reasoning. There is also an optional Writing Test. Because the sub-tests are based more specifically on your curriculum at school, some students who have experienced less success with the SAT have found greater success with the ACT.

On each section, scores range from 1-36 points. The composite score is the average of the four sub-scores. Students may take the optional 30-minute Writing Test as part of the ACT; this additional test is required by many colleges. The Writing Test will offer an essay and a multiple-choice sub-score as part of the Writing Test.
