CSS Profile

Many private colleges require students to use the College Scholarship Service PROFILE (CSS/Profile), a College Board product, in addition to the FAFSA. The PROFILE asks for more information than the FAFSA and allows financial aid offices to see a broader picture of the family's financial circumstances when considering aid.

The PROFILE should be completed online. The Student Guide is provided in pdf form below and will walk you through the steps needed to complete the online form. The initial application fee (first report) is $25, and each additional report is $16. Fees for up to eight colleges are waived automatically for first-year, first-time U.S. residents from very low-income families who qualify based on the information provided on the PROFILE.

Once students register online, they can complete and submit the application immediately or at a later time. Once submitted, the PROFILE report is sent to the designated colleges or programs. PROFILE begins accepting applications on October 1 of your senior year. PROFILE begins reporting application information to colleges and programs as early as October 17 if all information is completed.
