Get Organized

You will find it helpful to have some kind of organizational system for your applications. Some students keeps a folder, a notebook, or a set of files. Whichever method you choose, you may find the following categories useful:


  1. Notes on colleges. Include personal notes on colleges that you research.
  2. Useful college search websites/links. Many of these links can be found on this website, but it may be useful to bookmark the sites you find useful, especially if you plan on conducting most of your research online.
  3. Application deadlines. Make a record of applications you have requested and their appropriate deadlines. Check off the ones you receive.
  4. Test Records. Makes notes of the:
    • Tests you have taken.
    • Scores received.
    • Colleges to which you have sent scores.

  5. Transcript requests. Meet with Mrs. Rouillard-Hill to fill out a yellow MHS Transcript Request Form. Make note of the date your items were requested and the date by which they are to be sent.
  6. Teacher recommendations. Make a record of which teachers you have asked to write recommendations and when you gave them materials.
  7. Completed applications. Place a printout of submitted online applications, financial aid forms, application fee receipts, and essays you have completed and submitted online in this file.
  8. Receipts/confirmation emails. Print all confirmation emails of online submissions for your files including any notes from Mrs. Rouillard-Hill confirming she mailed your MHS transcripts.
  9. Interview appointments. Keep a written record of times of interviews, names and telephone numbers of interviewers, and directions to the interview site.
  10. Thank you notes. Keep a record of thank you notes that you mailed to individuals who interviewed you, submitted letters of recommendation on your behalf, or provided you with assistance during the application process.
