Performance Arts
Thematic Framework
Truth: We work at being true to ourselves when expressing our art. We seek truth by looking at human behavior and observing what it tells us. We use what we observe and experience to fuel our artistic expression.
Choice: We seek choice in how we will present ourselves in our performances. We seek choice by selecting what we will perform, how we will play a character or how we will present our music.
Change: Art can be used to encourage change in society and in ourselves. Engaging in the performing arts can enrich the lives of those performing and of those watching.
Systems: Music is a language with its own system. Learning the elements of performance in music and in theatre is a way to create wonderful art.
Enduring Understandings
Humans have communicated through music and theatre throughout all times and all over the world. Musical expression is a universal language.
People use drama and music to express themselves and to recognize expression in others and people are asked to perform in all stages of their lives.
Acting is learning about yourself, what you are comfortable with, how you react in certain situations, and the experiences and the memories you have.
Many elements of performance can be improved upon when focused on and practiced. Theater involves working as a community and taking risks. Music involves learning the skill of music and then learning the skill of performing.
