The unit on adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) defines ACEs, the impact of ACEs on physical and mental health, prevention strategies, and resilience. Students learn about the different types of ACEs, including physical and emotional abuse, neglect, and household dysfunction, and how they can negatively impact health outcomes. The unit addresses strategies for mitigating the impact of ACEs and ways to create environments that are sensitive to the needs of individuals who have experienced ACEs. Lastly, students learn the concept of resilience and ways to heal and recover from ACEs.
