Specially Funded positions are common in the MCCCD.
These positions receive funding either from funding proposals - both internal and external - or as part of a fee-generating program that the college or District supports.
Full-time Specially Funded employees are unique from classified full-time employees in that they are considered "At-Will Employees". This means that both the college/District and the employee can terminate the employment at any time with a two (2) weeks notice.
This is common in Specially Funded Positions when grants expire and are not renewed, or a donation source has been used up.
Specially Funded employees are also eligible for benefits and perks similar to full-time classified staff.
Take a look at the table below for a breakdown of these benefits:
Insurance Benefits
Yes
Employees who do not enroll in benefits or complete a waiver form to opt out of the MCCCD insurance plan will be automatically enrolled in the core plan.
Sick Leave
Yes
Full-time SPF/SFP employees are entitled to 104 hours sick leave per year, accrued at the rate of 8 hours for each four (4) weeks of service.
Personal Leave
Yes
32 hours per year
Personal Leave pay comes out of your Sick Leave bucket. If you do not have Sick Leave time accrued, it will be unpaid leave.
Tuition Waiver
Yes
For Employees & Dependents
See the page on Tuition Waivers for a guide on how many credits a SFP employee is entitled to.
Holiday Pay
Yes
All full-time employees must be in a paid position the working day before and the working day after the paid holiday in order to receive the Holiday Pay.
Vacation Leave
Possibly
Paid vacation accrual depends on the source of funding for the position. If the source specifies that there is no allotment for paid vacation, then the employee will not accrue any.
If the source allows for paid vacation, the SF employee will accrue vacation hours at the standard rate of their classified full-time counterparts.
Funding sources may choose to limit paid vacation further than MCCCD's accrual rate, in which case the employee will be entitled to what the funding source's limit grants them.
As an employee in this group, you are expected to read the policies and procedures in this manual and understand how they affect you and your role as an MCCCD employee.
