Third Graders are learning about electricity and the process of building a closed circuit. Students enjoyed exploring electric conductors and insulators during our science lab today. We began with a question: What objects conduct electricity? We viewed an array of items in bags and discussed while also making predictions if each item was a conductor or an insulator. Students have learned that an insulator does not conduct electricity and that in an insulator an electric current can not flow freely. We also know that all metals are conductors, and conductors are materials through which electric currents can flow. After making predictions, students had great fun building their closed circuits with wires, batteries, switches, and light bulbs. We then were ready to test our objects to see if they were conductors of electricity or insulators. After testing each bag item for electricity, we drew conclusions… What a surprise that some of our predictions were not correct!...Exploring electricity and learning more about conductors and insulators was such fun!
