Second grade is learning so much about magnets. Today we discussed magnetism and the strong force from the North and South poles. We experimented with a paperclip to make discoveries about where a magnet is strongest. After some exploration with the bar, horseshoe, and donut magnets, students concluded that the force of magnetism is strongest at the poles. Also, students conducted an experiment with partners to explore which poles attract and which poles repel. We know that like poles repel, and unlike poles attract. During our time in the science lab, second grade ended the lesson by discussing magnetic fields. We used the three different magnets to explore with iron filings. We discovered that the iron filings collected and followed the North and South ends where the force is the strongest. Magnets are fun!
