Students made predictions and then conducted an experiment locating three main constellations: Orion, Ursa Major, and Ursa Minor. We conducted a fun experiment using blue card stock paper representing outer space during different times of the year in two month intervals. Students poked holes in these three main constellations, Orion, Ursa Major, and Ursa Minor, using push pins and then held the “outer space models” up to the light to view each constellation during different times of the year. It was a great, hands on way for the students to make better connections and draw conclusions.
