Fourth Grade has been learning a lot about astronomy. We have become experts on the study of the universe and the objects in it, including stars and constellations, planets, and galaxies! Students have also been learning a lot about astronomy tools. We conducted research on a few very interesting tools that scientists use to view celestial objects or natural object that are located outside of Earth's atmosphere, such as the Moon, the Sun, an asteroid, planet, or star. As a culminating lab activity, fourth graders chose their favorite astronomy tool to build and then later use in the nighttime sky! Some of the tools that we made today include simple astrolabes, compasses, crude sextants, and telescopes!
