Fourth grade has been learning a lot about the causes of the changing moon phases as the moon orbits the Earth. Students have learned that the moon produces no light of its own and only reflects light from the sun. We used styrofoam balls on sticks that were representing the moon and a light bulb to represent the sun. Students viewed the moon phases from Earth’s prospective while experiencing the model.
