The Renfrew County District School Board has a strong commitment to human rights, equity, anti-racism, anti-oppression and inclusion for all students, staff and school community members and partners. We want everyone who learns in, works in, partners with or volunteers in the RCDSB to feel a sense of safety, belonging and acceptance.
Embedded in the RCDSB Strategic Plan is our commitment to prioritize the Empowerment of Equity and Well-Being by:
Embedding the theories and practices of anti-racism and anti-oppression into all that we do;
Recognizing and working to eliminate systemic barriers affecting students, staff and school communities;
Ensuring equitable access to programs and services across the system;
Integrating Indigenous ways of teaching, learning, knowing and living into our educational practices; and,
Seeking out and delivering best practices and promising opportunities that support mental health and well-being.
Secondary students in the RCDSB are passionate about taking steps towards authentic equity in our schools as well as the removal of barriers and discrimination based on any protected ground in the Ontario Human Rights Code.
We want all our secondary students to see their identities and cultures in their classrooms, schools and learning opportunities. As such, our secondary students are provided with supports that affirm their identities, such as prayer rooms, RCDSB Pride events and student associations based on identity markers, including religion, race or other characteristics. Current school-based examples of this include Muslim Student Associations, Indigenous Student Associations and GSAs.
