In partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Education and local post-secondary organizations, the RCDSB is able to offer an alternative method of earning high school and post-secondary credits called "Dual Credits".
Dual Credit programs provide students with opportunities to customize their high school experience and build on their strengths and interests. At the successful completion of a Dual Credit course, a student earns both an Ontario high school credit and a credit from the partnering post-secondary institution.
Dual Credit programs are designed to support students who are:
at risk of not graduating from high school,
enrolled in a Specialist High Skills Major program,
enrolled in the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program,
interested in exploring career pathways, including apprenticeships, and,
looking for help with the transition to college or an apprenticeship program.
In Renfrew County, we have a partnership with Algonquin College for the Dual Credit Program.
With Dual Credits, students can:
earn high school credits towards both their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and their postsecondary certificate, diploma or degree or their apprenticeship certification while studying at a local college,
gain experience to successfully transition to college or an apprenticeship program,
Increase their awareness of college and apprenticeship pathways, and,
develop greater insight into education and career planning decisions.
Students can earn up to four optional credits through college-delivered Dual Credit courses. There is no limit on the number or type of secondary credits that they may earn through team-taught courses delivered jointly by college instructors and secondary school teachers.
