The Guidance Department at each secondary school offers a program of activities and services that facilitates the personal, social, educational, and career development of students at all grade levels. Guidance Counsellors provide individual counselling, group instruction, consultations and referrals to assist students and their families in making informed decisions and responsible plans.
Some of the services offered through Guidance include:
High School Course Selection: Support in choosing courses to satisfy the requirements for the high school graduation diploma and planning a high school program to satisfy post-secondary admission requirements;
Post-Secondary Information: Availability of both print and electronic resources relative to post-secondary planning, post-secondary applications, scholarships/bursaries and other topics;
University-College Liaison: Opportunities to attend the University Information Program, the College Information Program and individual school visits;
Home-School Liaison: Discussion of a student's progress and plans and post-secondary opportunities with parents/guardians.
Community Liaison: Availability of volunteer opportunities with various agencies, service clubs, and elementary schools; and,
Student Decision-Making: Availability of a wide range of resources to help students make informed choices about their future.
The Guidance Office is a very valuable resource for both students and parents. We encourage you to use the resources at any time and to sign up for an appointment to see a Counsellor and let us know how we can help you reach your goals.
