Each year, usually in January or February, students will be asked to choose their courses for the next school year. In general, students will be completing their course selection online using the myBlueprint application.
They will be assisted by their Guidance Counsellor throughout the course selection process. The Guidance Counsellor will help students understand how they are progressing to earn their diploma, help them understand the different pathways available after high school and the requirements for each, and outline the courses that are available for the students to select.
Course selection is a very important process each year, as it helps the school determine which courses they will offer the following year. Students should ensure that they take care to choose the courses that they want and need during course selection, as it may not be possible to make changes to their courses at a later time.
It is also very important that students discuss their course selection with their parents/guardians to ensure that they agree with their course choices.
Courses may be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment and/or staffing considerations. A course may be closed to new enrollments due to class size limits.
If a course cancellation or closure were to occur, an alternate course from the student’s course selection sheet will be substituted or students will be notified and asked to select an alternate course.
Course change requests from students will only be considered for a valid reason. The school may consider a course change request for reasons including:
changes in course pathway,
timetable errors,
changes in career plans,
post-secondary admission requirements,
medical accommodations, and,
summer school results.
All requests for course changes are subject both to approval and to the available space in courses.
