Mentoring friends through Sports
Unified Sports Physical Education
Unified Sports is an inclusive program pairing students with and without intellectual disabilities as teammates (athletes and partners) to train, compete, and build friendships. It originated as a student-led club and expanded into a formal Unified Physical Education class, featuring sports like basketball and track.
Students act as peer coaches and work alongside students with special needs. The program hosts annual events like the unified basketball game pictured below. The mission is to break down stereotypes, foster friendships and promote acceptance through sports.
