Under the expert direction of Brad Davis and Assistant Director Kyle Myers, the Esperanza High School Band Program has established itself as a model of musical excellence. The program creates a well-rounded educational environment that prioritizes the "process" of music-making—teaching students professional musicianship, theory, and discipline.
This rigorous attention to detail has translated into immense success on the competitive stage. The program’s ensembles—including a dynamic Marching Band and Colorguard, two Concert Bands, and three Jazz Ensembles—are consistent high-achievers, earning top honors and accolades at regional and national festivals. However, the program's proudest metric is the longevity of its students' skills; many Esperanza alumni have utilized their foundation here to launch thriving careers in the professional music industry.

Course Title: PE-Band
This course is a high-energy, athletic, drum-corps style ensemble designed for students dedicated to performance excellence. While the curriculum covers the fundamentals of general musicianship, movement, and dance, the primary focus of this program is the development of leadership, personal responsibility, and ownership within a team setting.
Students will act as "musician-athletes," spending rehearsal time producing a complex 12-minute field show and preparing for parades. This preparation culminates in an active competitive season, with the band participating in various field show tournaments from September through November. Additionally, the group plays an active role in school spirit, performing pep music and field shows at home football games.
Course Title: PE Color Guard
PE Color Guard combines elements of dance, theater, and equipment manipulation to create visually engaging performances. In the fall, students perform in conjunction with the Marching Band as the visual ensemble for field shows, football games, and parades.
In the spring, the curriculum continues with the Indoor Color Guard season, where students prepare and perform an independent indoor theatrical production. The group maintains an active schedule with various performances on and off campus throughout the year. Adjudicated competitions during both the marching band and indoor seasons are an integral part of the course curriculum. Students are expected to take this course in conjunction with PE Banner/Flag.
Course Title: PE Banner/Flag
PE Banner/Flag focuses on the technical and physical development required for the modern color guard arts. The curriculum emphasizes body conditioning, dance fundamentals, and advanced equipment technique (flag, rifle, and sabre).
Designed to complement PE Color Guard, this course provides the dedicated training time necessary to refine individual skills and detail complex choreography. Students focus on personal growth, muscle memory, and technical precision to support the physical demands of the ensemble's competitive productions.
Concert Bands
Esperanza Concert Bands perform at a high level at all competitions and concerts. We field two excellent bands, Symphonic Band and Advanced Band. The Symphonic Band meets during zero period after Marching Band season ends so every student in the program will be in Symphonic Band. Advanced Band meets during 1st Period. All bands consistently score Superiors (highest rating) at regional festivals. They also perform in multiple concerts throughout the year.
