Film Appreciation is an elective course open to 10th-12th graders, exploring the history and art of storytelling through cinema. This course analyzes representative films as 'historical documents' revealing insights into the time and people that made them. Students develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of film's role in society - and discover how to spot symbolism, metaphors, and character parallels that make stories come alive. By exploring genres, technical language, and historical connections, the skill and artistry of film become clear. This course is a great way to boost critical thinking skills and gain a new perspective on the movies you love. Film Appreciation meets both the fine art requirements for graduation and the UC fine art system.
