Grade 12 is a student’s best time to win scholarships. There will never be another time where there are more opportunities and less competition.
However, to qualify for the most awards — and the biggest awards in Canada — you must prepare early. While grade 12 is the best time to apply for scholarships, the best time to prepare is before grade 12. If you’re serious about winning scholarships, you’ll need to have built your scholarship profile (or resumé) before grade 12. That’s because to qualify for bigger awards, you’ll need to have completed certain kinds of activities that take longer to carry out. Plus, some of the biggest scholarships in Canada are offered early in grade 12 and have deadlines less than 3 months into grade 12. So, when you apply, you’ll be assessed based on what you did in grade 10 and 11, not in grade 12 because grade 12 has only just started!

SCHOLAR TREE
ScholarTree is a Canadian Scholarship Database that can be used by high school students to search for scholarships that suit their interests and future plans. You can create a scholartree account by visiting the weblink below and then begin your search for scholarships. It is a good idea to set up an account as a grade 11 student so you are prepared for the massive amount of scholarships available throughout the school year to Canadian grade 12 students. Once students complete their profiles, they will be matched to all the awards they qualify for.

The Wolf Scholars Program is a new full-ride scholarship at the University of Toronto, offering 16 students full tuition, a living stipend, funded travel, internships, and more. The program invites educators to nominate outstanding students, while also allowing students to self-nominate if they are not nominated by their school. A school nomination gives educators the opportunity to champion students who demonstrate academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, leadership potential, and strength of character. Applications are due November 10. www.wolfscholars.com
