We are administering placement tests as students come into our HS and that is going to help us guide your placement, but the decision will have to do with your previous credits, motivation, grades and teacher recommendation as well.
IB Ab Initio - Students that have not taken more than 1 year of Spanish. Really fast learning. Focused on learning basic foundational Spanish, understanding and communicating practically.
Standard Level - Students that have taken more than 1 year of Spanish in the past. You will work on deepening your skills and communicate about many topics. You will work at an intermediate level.
Spanish HL - Students that have surpassed intermediate level regardless of their years taking Spanish Classes. This class focuses on working at an advance level. The class focuses around literature, debates and critical thinking.
Revising grades starts with creating fluid communication with your teachers. Some grades like effort grades can’t always be revised, but they might be excused if there is a proper justification. If you feel like you need help advocating for your grade, reach out to your advisor and they will help you figure out the situation.
The lowest Mandarin level that we offer in the High School is level 3. You have to pass a placement test administered here and have some previous experience in the language.
You have Speaking, Writing, Reading and Listening.
Speaking is the IA (Internal Assessment) and then a 3 part exam over 2 different days.
That’s the speaking part and the details depend on the level you are taking (Ab Initio, SL or HL.) But you basically need to speak with a prompt for a certain amount of time and then interact orally with your teacher while recording the whole thing.
