Attendance and effort are the two most important factors for doing well in Physical Education at BPHS. The more effort you put into showing up to class and into the activities inside class, the better you will do.
Shirts will be provided by the school and must be worn during gym class. Other suitable clothing includes shorts, joggers, sweatpants, sneakers / running shoes, and other athletic wear. Religious attire is permitted.
As with any other class at BPHS, the policy is broken down into 70% achievement assignments and 30% effort assignments. Achievement assignments in gym class include the Fitnessgram and any other projects or class periods coaches deem crucial. The best way to improve your grade in PE is to clearly demonstrate full effort during class. This effort won't go unnoticed.
The Fitnessgram is a standardized national test of strength and agility in young students designed to assess cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition. At BPHS, students participate in the Fitnessgram four times a year and includes:
A mile run
Pushups
Agility run
Flex arm hang
Sit-and-reach
Sit Ups
After students record their time in a digital assignment, there are a series of questions which prompt them to reflect on their progress and results. These responses as well as improvement from one Fitnessgrm to another are achievement assignments, and can greatly impact a student's score.
STUDENTS ARE NOT GRADED COMPARATIVELY WITH EACH OTHER, BUT INSTEAD GRADED ON THIER OWN IMPROVEMENT.
70% Achievement grades (quizzes, exams, and projects) + 30% Effort grade (Homework & Classwork)
