Year 1: During this year of study, students deepen their language to articulate how they process through the creation of a new choreographic work. Through a large and on-going project, students will document every single decision they make while completing their first required DP solo composition. They will also present their compositions for a informal Winter Dance Concert at the end of the semester. 3rd year students will also explore one World Dance form and begin to observe the processes that have and continue to shape movement around the world. They will develop the skills necessary to compare the varying movement forms. IB Assignments include Solo Composition, Duet Composition, Solo Performance, Duet/Trio Performance
Prerequisite: Dance 10 & Instructor Approval
NOTE: A senior student may elect to take IB Dance HL (Year 1), but will NOT receive a certificate of completion. Students must earn a yearlong average of 65% or higher in Year 1 in order to move on to Year 2.
Year 2: In the final year of the dance program students take the skills they have learned and apply this knowledge to novel situations. The class is responsible for producing the Spring Dance Concert (with guidance). In addition to presenting much of the choreography they have created within the DP program, they are also responsible for organizing the production staff, schedule and creating all communication (with assistance/approval and guidance) for the concert to the larger community (press release, newsletter blurbs, poster, program, video excerpts. . .etc.). Even though students are finalizing details for their “final” presentations of choreographic works, performances externally grading assignments, they will be challenged to consider whether the version they present is the “final” product. IB Assignments include Duet/Trio Composition, Composition & Analysis, Dance Comparative Essay, Group Composition
