IB Applications & Interpretations SL
Emphasis on modeling, statistics, and practical applications of mathematics
Develops strong skills in applying mathematics to the real-world
Real mathematical problem solving using technology
For students interested in social sciences, natural sciences, medicine, statistics, business, some economics, psychology, and design
Greater emphasis on statistics rather than calculus
Provides the foundations of calculus with a relatively small overlap with a college-level Calculus I course
Students are guided to make connections between concepts
IB Analysis & Approaches SL
Emphasis on algebraic methods and abstract thinking
Develops strong skills in mathematical thinking
Real and abstract mathematical problem solving
For students interested in mathematics, engineering, physical sciences, and some economics
Greater emphasis on calculus rather than statistics
Covers both differential and integral calculus and has significant overlap with a college-level Calculus I course
For students who require less review of prerequisite algebra material and are excited to learn math at a quicker pace
Students are expected to make connections based on prior knowledge
There are three different parts. Students must complete a Math Internal assessment and participate in two exams Paper 1 and Paper 2.
Student who have completed Algebra I in Middle school:
9th grade - Introduction to Data Science
10th grade - Algebra II
11th & 12th grade - IB Math Course
Student who have not completed Algebra I in Middle school:
9th grade - Algebra I
10th grade - Algebra II
11th & 12th grade - IB math course
