The best way to learn how to install and remove a meter is to see it. Watch the videos and all of these techniques will be covered and practiced in field training.
RESIDENTIAL METER INSTALLATION
Inspect Meter Location
Visually inspect the area around the meter for any signs of charring or burn marks. This includes where the conduit meets the meter can.
Remove the socket ring or box cover to access the meter.
Does socket/wiring appear faulty? Is the meter can loose on the wall? – If yes, notify Field Manager and notate issues in the Install App/Field Tool and document with pictures of the issue. Move to the next location.
If socket/wiring requires replacement prior to install, Field Manager notifies the Utility.
New Meter Installation
Whenever possible remove or reduce the load from the meter using the bypass or cutting the main breaker (If accessible)
Remove meter from the box, checking for any cables or connectors that may have been damaged.
Make sure that the meter type, form, and class match the installation.
Check voltage of supply side for proper voltage using voltmeter. Document voltage
Install meter in the appropriate socket.
Compare wiring with manufacturer diagrams to make sure the meter is wired properly.
Plug meter terminal blades into socket to make a connection with the terminal jaws.
Apply load by turning the breaker back on.
Check to make sure that the LCD operates and sequences through the display items which were programmed into the meter.
Visual inspection
Confirm power is on.
Verify meter is secure in socket.
Reinstall the can cover or ring.
Install new Utility approved security seal.
