With the meter removed from the socket, insert the Hot Socket Gap Indicator into each jaw of the meter socket to determine if the jaw has become unsafe for continued use.
Results:
A red indication on the Hot Socket Gap Indicator implies the meter socket jaw has a significant gap/loss of spring force and is unsafe for continued use. (See Figure 1) If there is no red indication on the Hot Socket Gap Indicator, the meter socket jaw does not have a significant gap/loss of spring force. (See Figure 2)
CAUTION: If feasible, service should be disconnected. Personal protective equipment (PPE) should always be used while operating.
