PUBLIC SERVICES & OUTDOOR ADVENTURE
Welcome to Public Services & Outdoor Adventure
When you study on our Public Services and Outdoor Adventure courses, you will receive an excellent combination of theoretical study with a range of hands-on practical experience from our passionate and inspirational lecturers.
There will be plenty of opportunities to take learning outside the classroom and we regularly use North Devon’s natural playground as our teaching space. There, you will have the opportunity to develop your practical learning alongside your teamwork and leadership skills.
There is a huge variety of careers and further learning available to you after this course; former students have gone on to study subjects such as criminology and law, as well as secure jobs in the armed forces and blue light services.

Before you hear from our lecturers and take a look through the course content, why not hear what our students say!
"I chose to study at Petroc because it was the college that hosted the course that I really wanted to do.
I really enjoyed the class discussions, the unique learning style and the practical elements of the course. One of the highlights of the course was carrying out the Armed Response Police scenarios that we did with Devon and Cornwall Police at Middlemore in Exeter.
I also enjoy the way in which we are treated like adults and the good learning environment that the college has to offer.
When I leave Petroc, I hope to apply for a Level 4 Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship programme with the long-term goal of becoming a Police Officer with Devon and Cornwall Police.
My advice to anyone wanting to go to college is to enjoy every day and use the vital skills that you learn for later in life. Put your heart in everything that you do and get involved!"
Jack, Public Services, Level 3
Jacob, Outdoor Adventure
Jacob and his mum came in and told us about what they thought about the Outdoor Adventure course.
"After initially choosing A-levels, I decided to move on to a course that had elements of things that I loved doing - which is being outside and active.
I particularly enjoyed how the practical and theory sessions followed on from each other to help you improve from your previous session and plan for your future sessions.
I really enjoyed all of our trips. Once a week we would carry out practical sessions in our local or not so local areas. Being with a group of individuals that have the same interests also meant that we would likely continue to work in the same industries and have the same hobbies that we could do together.
When I left college, I went straight into working as a flotilla host in Greece. I would love to continue to work in and around the water, and hope to one day get my Yachtmaster so that I can sail and surf and dive.
This is a great course, so sign up! I had so much fun and I have found that that the longer I have been in both hospitality and instructing industries the things that I was taught have become more relevant."
