ANIMAL CARE

Welcome to Animal Care

Our Animal Care programmes give you the opportunity to study with like-minded people, who care as much about animal welfare as you do. Our fantastic on-site facilities include a rodent room, a guinea pig and rabbit room, an exotics room and an aviary - as well as an outside enclosure for our adorable pygmy goats! These great facilities and our passionate experts will give you the insight you need to help you choose your future career path. After completing this course, previous students have gone on to pursue their dream jobs as vet nurses, animal centre managers and even wildlife conservationists. Many also undertake our Foundation Degree in Animal Conservation.

Sally, Level 3 Animal Care and Management

"I chose to study Animal Care because I have always had an interest in Animal welfare. Growing up with all kinds of animals I knew I wanted a career caring for them and learning more about individual topics. The course sounded amazing and a great opportunity to foresee my dream job.

I particularly enjoyed Duties and my work experience placement. This was the part of the course where you got hands on action with the Animals down at the Centre, some animal’s I'd never even seen before. Duties was all about the husbandry, welfare and learning about each individual needs of the animals. My work experience placement was The Big Sheep where I learnt more about farm animals and their needs, also was delighted to get a job there through my work experience hours.

The course offers a huge amount of trips. For example, we went to a number of zoos learning about enclosure’s, natural behaviours, welfare and breeding/ conservation programmes. These trips gave us the opportunity to use the knowledge we had learnt and use them in our assignments such as creating your own zoo enclosure for mixed species.

I most enjoyed Petroc's environment, friendly teaching staff, the course itself, and making new friends.

I would recommend the course to anyone with the desire to work with animals. This course is a great starting point and can get you into university to further your career in the Animal industry."
