Message Center
Message Center
The My Messages area in the software enables you to view notifications and messages you receive according to how you set up your My Message Settings. You can view messages and indicate whether the message has been read or unread, delete the message, or even reply to a message if the original message has the Allow Replies option enabled. You can access the My Messages screen from anywhere in the software by clicking the envelope near the top right of any screen.
Note: When using the Skyward Mobile App, users will need to click the message to view the message details and any attachments.
Below is a short video over the My Message feature.
From the My Messages screen, you can see your inbox of notifications or messages, as well as navigate to the Trash tab at the left of the screen to view any notifications or messages you've deleted. You can choose to click the open icon to view the details of a particular message or you can use the double left arrow to view the message in the details pane. Regardless of how you choose to view your message, the options for how you proceed with the message remain the same depending on the setup of the message. If you chose to open the message or use the details panel, you can click the options to Mark As Read or Delete Message near the top right of the screen.
From the Inbox tab on the My Messages screen, you can also click the down arrow icon to the left of the message to access the Mark As Read or Delete Message options. If the individual who sent the message checked the box for Allow Replies on the original message, you will also see a Reply option in the Record Options drop-down menu, as well as near the top right of the screen when you are viewing the Message Details screen. You can also see who or what the message is regarding if the message is sent to a guardian or a student. For example, if a guardian is sent a message from a teacher, the Regarding line will mention both the student and the class.
You can also choose to delete the message if you wish to remove the message or notification from your list of messages on the Inbox tab. These messages or notifications would then display in the Trash tab and are marked as read. You can delete messages to archive them and reduce clutter on the Inbox tab. You will also see an additional option for Reply, if the message has been configured to allow replies. This enables you to send a response back to the person who sent the message.
If you chose to mark the message as read, the message no longer displays as bolded on the Inbox tab of the My Messages screen. This reduces the notification number that displays next to My Messages near the top right of any screen. If you have marked a message as read, you see a new option display for Mark As Unread on the Message Details screen. If you use this option, the notification number that displays next to My Messages increases.
Once you click Reply, you can set the Priority and also indicate the Reply Message you wish to send.
If you select High for the Priority, the message will be marked with the high importance indicator for the individual who sent the message.
After the reply message has been sent, you will see a reply indicator to the left of the message you replied to and the message will be marked as read. You can only send replies on those messages that have been configured to allow replies. If you do not see the Reply option this means the message cannot be replied to.
Notification Preferences
Configuring your message center settings enables you to filter which types of messages and notifications you receive. You can use this configuration to specify which messages you wish to receive emails for. For example, you can opt to receive emails for Low Score Notifications and set the threshold to determine at which score you want to start receiving the notifications. If your child's school has selected not to use a specific notification, you will not receive that notification even if you configure your Message Center Settings for it. You can also adjust your settings in the My Messages area if you are concerned about the number of emails you are receiving.Â
