This course is for students who wish to gain nationally recognised entry level qualifications for employment in the business world, either as a long-term career or in part-time or temporary positions while undertaking further study. Students will develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to function effectively in a business environment. This course is designed to assist those seeking entry level career positions in areas such as administration, finance, business and technology. It may lead to occupations such as Office Junior, Secretary, Office Administrator, Data Entry Clerk or a Personal Assistant.
This course is suitable for students who have a helpful and courteous manner, have a good eye for detail, have the ability to work with others within the workplace and possess good communication and excellent customer service skills.
PLEASE NOTE : This is a new qualification for 2022. At the time of publication, NESA’s syllabus has not been published. As a result, the units of competency listed below may change.

ELIGIBILITY FOR QUALIFCATION:
Students assessed as fulfilling the requirements for all the units in the 240 hour course will be eligible for Certificate III in Business. Students achieving at least one unit of competency will be eligible for an AQF Statement of Attainment showing partial completion of their qualification.
ASSESSMENT:
This course is competency based and the student's performance is assessed against prescribed industry standards.

WORK PLACEMENT:
Students studying this VET course are required to complete a minimum of 70 hours work placement. This is a mandatory requirement of NESA. Failure to complete the mandatory work placement hours could jeopardise a student's eligibility to be awarded the Higher School Certificate.

DUTIES AND TASK OF AN ADMINSTRATION ASSISTANT
Sort and distribute incoming mail to areas and staff within the organisation and dispatch outgoing mail
Write business letters, reports or office memos using word processing programmes
Answer telephone enquiries from customers, attend to visitors and assist other staff in the organisation with their enquires.
Operate a range of office machines such as photocopiers, computers and faxes
File papers and documents
Undertake other duties such as banking, credit control or payroll functions.
