Stage 5
Information aND Software Technology
Information and Software Technology can be studied as a one-year course or a two-year course and is open to students in Years 9 and 10.
The aim of Stage 5 Information and Software Technology is to apply the processes of analysing, designing, producing, testing, documenting, implementing and evaluation to information and software technology-based solutions. Students undertake projects chosen from the following areas: Artificial Intelligence, Simulation and Modelling, Authoring and Multimedia, Database Design, Digital Media, Internet and Website Development, Networking Systems, Robotics and Automated Systems, Software Development and Programming.
Knowledge
Students will develop knowledge of:
a range of computer software and hardware
problem-solving and critical thinking skills in order to design and develop creative information and software technology solutions for a variety of real-world problems
responsible and ethical attitude related to the use of information and software technology
the effects of past, current and emerging information and software technologies on the individual and society
effective communication skills and collaborative work practices leading to information and software technology solutions for specific problems
Skills
Students will develop skills to be able to:
select appropriate software and hardware
designs, produces and evaluates appropriate solutions to a range of challenging problems
justifies responsible practices and ethical use of information and software technology
analyses the effects of past, current and emerging information and software technologies on the individual and society
work collaboratively and communicate ideas
