Food Technology can be studied as a one-year course or a two-year course and is open to students in Years 9 and 10.
The aim of Stage 5 Food Technology is to develop knowledge of nutrition, cooking processes and food-related technologies in order to better understand the relationship between food and health. Students also develop practical skills through the production of food products.
Knowledge
Students will develop knowledge of:
food hygiene and safety
the properties of food
food processing and preparation
nutrition and food consumption
the consequences of food choices on health
the impact of food on society
Skills
Students will develop skills to be able to:
design, produce and evaluate food products
research, communicate and evaluate food-related issues

Food Service and Catering
Food for Specific Needs
Food for Special Occasions
Food Trends
Students must comply with all Work Health and Safety practices when engaged in practical activities.
