Psychology of the Young Mind
Psychology of the Young Mind can be studied for only one year in EITHER Years 9 or 10.
This course is designed to develop in students the knowledge, understanding and skills to positively influence the wellbeing and development of children in the critical early years (0–8 years) in a range of settings and contexts. Through the medium of human psychology and the cognitive development of children it aims to provide students with the skills, appreciation and knowledge to:
Understand the Catholic perspective on family and conception to birth
Build knowledge about positive family interactions
Develop skills in relation to the basic requirements of caring for the young
Play with children and learn about their diverse needs
Learn about the development of the brain
Be prepared to nurture and protect children with regard to health and safety
Learn about children's developmental milestones and how to provide proper nutrition
This course will be useful to all students who are thinking about a career in early childhood, social work or psychology in the future. There will be guest speakers, practical nurturing projects, and a focus study on child psychology.
