Stage 5

Dance

Dance can be studied as a one-year course or a two-year course and is open to students in Years 9 and 10.

The aim of Stage 5 Dance is for students to express ideas creatively as they make and perform dances, and analyse dance as works of art. They think imaginatively and share ideas, feelings, values and attitudes while physically and intellectually exploring the communication of ideas through movement. Safe dance practice is embedded through the practices to ensure that students are able to maintain safe, healthy and rewarding lives.


Knowledge

Students will develop knowledge of:

  • safe dance practices

  • elements of movement

  • compositional processes

  • elements of construction

  • choreographic forms

  • dance analysis

Skills

Students will develop skills to be able to:

  • apply safe dance practices when performing

  • apply aspects of performance quality and interpretation through performance

  • composes dances using compositional processes that communicate a concept

  • describe and analyses dance
