Managing My Emotions

Learn how to control your emotions effectively

Some students benefit from creating a 'where am I on the mountain' chart to help them to learn about their emotional, physical and psychological reactions when they start to be triggered, escalate, erupt and then move into recovery mode. By working on this activity students develop a personalized tool that reflects their own individual reactions, and how to reduce the likelihood of erupting.

Social Stories

To assist students to develop an awareness of their impact, presence of self and behaviour it might be fun to create a social story. Social stories are usually in a video or book format and demonstrates the student making different choices so they can see themselves demonstrating the skill that they are working on developing. Parents are encouraged to consider making videos with their children at home as these are very impacting tools.
