Swearing and/or profanity of any kind will not be tolerated at Parklands Christian College. Colossians 3 tells us to “rid ourselves of all such things as anger, rage, malice, slander and filthy language from your lips”. The use of profane language is socially unacceptable and can make those around you uncomfortable when such language is used. Profane words are often used to degrade or shock others, however Jesus teaches us to edify or build others up, considering others more important than ourselves.
At Parklands Christian College we value RESPECT for ourselves and others. We need to be careful of how we communicate so as to build others up and make them feel valued so they can become all that God wants them to be.
Nevertheless, our words effect more than just other people, rather James 3 teaches us to tame the tongue because, “It corrupts the whole person”. Our words can have long-term consequences for our own lives and we should be mindful of this when we use profanity.
Long-term consequences include impacting one’s ability to gain or keep employment, as well as, potentially finding yourself alienated from friends or future partners who consider swearing unnecessary and unpleasant to listen to.
