We strive to support every child in reaching year-level expectations across academic, social, and emotional development. Promotion to the next academic year is based on a holistic view of a child’s readiness, taking into account multiple aspects of their growth and learning.
While each child’s journey is unique, key factors that guide promotion decisions include:
Consistent attendance and engagement in the learning process
Demonstrated mastery of year-level learning outcomes
Developmentally appropriate social and emotional skills
Willingness and ability to participate meaningfully in class activities
Support needs, including the presence of an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), if applicable
Attendance Requirements: Regular attendance is essential for a child’s academic development. When a child’s attendance falls below 80%, a meeting with the Secondary School Leadership Team (SSLT) and family will be held to review their readiness for the next academic year. This meeting considers both academic progress and the broader context of the child’s development.
When Promotion May Be Withheld: If a child is performing one year or more below expectations, the school may require that the child repeat the current year to provide time for consolidation and growth. Retention is considered only after careful review and in situations where it is deemed truly in the child’s best interest.
In these cases:
The school may recommend retention and leave the final decision to the parents.
Alternatively, the school may determine that promotion is not an option based on the child's overall readiness.
If the school recommends retention and the family chooses not to follow that recommendation, the school will request that the parents sign a waiver acknowledging they are proceeding against school advice.
If the same recommendation is made in two consecutive academic years and not followed, the school will not offer promotion for the second year.
