What steps are generally required for conversion?

Here are some construction tips and tricks we've collected throughout the years. This is a guide to best practices but does not substitute for a scope of work.

What about permitting?
Permitting requirements vary from municipality to municipality. It is the responsibility of the Host to determine if any renovations require a construction permit. Please comply with all relevant local regulations and building code.
How can I ensure that my construction was done properly?
No system is foolproof, but if your property passes these stress tests, the risk of costly maintenance bills is reduced.
Plumbing
Run showers and sinks for 10 minutes to ensure water runs hot/cold and that all water drains effectively
Fill the tub completely and then let it drain. The tub should drain completely in less than five minutes.
Flush all toilets ten times to check for back-ups
Handle each toilet and plumbing fixture to ensure that it is installed tightly and that it does not move or wobble
Electrical
Test every outlet for functionality and to ensure it is grounded
Test every GFCI outlet with a tester
Turn on all lights and check for flickering
Safety
Test every smoke detector
Test every interior and exterior lock for functionality
Structural
Open and close every door, making sure each sits correctly in the frame
Open and close all cabinets
Lean full body-weight on all railings to ensure stability
Appliances/HVAC
Turn on the stove to test for heating. Turn on the oven for ten minutes to check for smoke.
Test the dryer for ten minutes
Run the A/C and heat for ten minutes each and ensure an air filter is present in the system
