The Crew
There are many people who could be involved in an RPAS mission. Each person should be assigned a role, and these roles will have specific responsibilities.
Remote Pilot: person who is tasked with flying the drone.
PIC (Pilot in Command): person who has final authority and is responsible for the operation and safety of flight. This can change during the flight. Responsible for and makes decisions during the drone’s flight, can assign other roles. Crew always complies with instructions of the PIC.
Visual Observer's Role: inform pilot of hazards (land or air)
Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems Commander: A trained and competent person who is responsible for the conduct and safety of a specific flight and for supervising the person in direct control of the RPAS.
Team Member: An individual who forms part of the RPAS team. This includes RPAS pilots, RPAS organization members and designated members of where a flight is made from.
