Listening to 7th Chord Quality: Listen to the different qualities of the M7, Dom, m7, º7, and ø7 chords. How would you describe the sound of each chord? Which sound more consonant or dissonant (and why)? Consider the harmonic intervals in each chord. What do the chords make you think of?
7th Chord Quality in the Scale: Construct a 7th chord on each step of the major and minor scale, then identify each triad by type using lead sheet notation. The Dom7 only occurs on one scale degree in both scales. Which one?
7th Chord Speed Challenge: Race against your classmates to see who can get the highest score in each level before the timer runs up. Record the highest running scores on the board. Scores only count if you have 100% correct, so accuracy matters. If you miss a chord, restart from the top! Work until your instructor yells "stop!".
