Unit Objectives

By the end of this unit, students will be able to: 

• Spell and ID major, minor, augmented, and diminished triads in root-position and inversion using lead sheet and figured bass notation.

• Define the terms: root, third, fifth, and bass as they relate to chords. 

• Identify triads in open spacing on multiples staves in examples from the literature using lead sheet and figured bass notation.

• Aurally identify and sing major, minor, and diminished triads when played as a block or arpeggiated. 

• Transcribe and perform melodies and rhythms that incorporate dotted quarter and 8th note values and skips between Do, Mi/Me, and Sol.
