Unit Objectives

By the end of this unit, students will be able to: 

• Identify and define equivalence for rhythmic symbols and durations including note shapes, rests, dots, and ties.

• Define: simple time, meter, beat, and time signature. 

• Identify time signatures in repertoire and correctly beam a rhythm in simple time. 

• Notate, transcribe, perform, and compose a rhythm in simple time with whole, half, and quarter notes. 

• Aurally identify the simple meter used in an example from the repertoire.
