Dr. Shannon Edwards, Psy.D.
Dr. Shannon Edwards is a Licensed Clinical Forensic Psychologist in Pennsylvania. She is the founder/owner of Edwards & Assoc., which is a private practice in Pittsburgh, PA. Her practice exclusively provides psycho-legal services to Civil, Family, and Criminal courts across the Commonwealth.
Dr. Edwards obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice at California University of Pennsylvania. Thereafter, she continued her studies at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology where she earned a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Forensic Psychology and a Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree in Clinical Forensic Psychology. Dr. Edwards completed comprehensive post-doctorate training including clinical forensic work at two private practices, a residency at the University of Pittsburgh – Mercy’s outpatient neuropsychology clinic, and teaching graduate students at Chatham University. Dr. Edwards has extensive forensic and clinical experience working with adolescents, juveniles, adults, and families. Unique to Pennsylvania are her eight years of academic training in Clinical Forensic Psychology, which involved rigorous law and psychology coursework. She is currently one of two licensed psychologists in Pennsylvania with specific academic training in this specialty area.
Dr. Edwards’ evaluative experience includes providing parental capacity, child custody, certification, and general mental health evaluations for Family and Juvenile Court; provision of wrongful death, immigration, and personal injury evaluations for Federal and Civil Court; and delivers a broad range of evaluations for Federal and Criminal Court including competency to stand trial evaluations, criminal responsibility evaluations, mitigating circumstance evaluations, juvenile life without parole evaluations, sexual offender evaluations, and general psychological evaluations. She also provides jury consultation and selection during adjudication and sentencing. Dr. Edwards provides co-parenting therapy, reunification therapy, supervised visitation, and other court-involved therapy for Family Court. She has been qualified as an expert in seven counties across the Commonwealth.
Dr. Edwards is a trained Coach in Collaborative law and a certified mediator. She is a founder/Board Member of “The Shortest Line,” which is a charitable organization with the purposes of providing pro bono services in adult family court within Allegheny County. She is active within the Pennsylvania Bar Association, Allegheny County Bar Association, and American Psychology – Law Society. She has advocated and written portions of both state and federal mental health bills, subsequently signed into law. Dr. Edwards is passionate about providing comprehensive services to individuals involved with the family court system, as well as the need for services of the mentally ill interacting with the justice system.
