Lisa Antoszewski is currently a Professor of Biology at Grove City College. She attended a small, primarily undergraduate institution (Susquehanna University) where she majored in Biochemistry. Her plan after college was to attend graduate school and work in a lab studying cancer biology. While Lisa did attend graduate school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, her research focus was only somewhat connected to cancer. She used the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, to study how cell proliferation is controlled in the early embryo – developmental genetics at its best.
Following graduation, Lisa worked as a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Pittsburgh studying kidney development in the zebrafish. While she enjoyed working in the lab, Lisa did not see herself at the bench for the rest of her career. One fall, she was offered the opportunity to serve as an adjunct professor at Grove City College. Lisa taught biology to non-majors, and it was then that she decided teaching was for her.
Lisa has been teaching at Grove City for almost 11 years now and in that time has offered classes in Genetics, Developmental Biology, and Cancer Biology. She has also offered research opportunities to a variety of students. In addition to her roles in the classroom and the lab, she served as Chair of the Biology Department for five years and is now serving as Assistant Chair. Lisa's path to a career in higher education was not linear (and not initially expected) but she feels prepared and well suited for her current position.
