Social Care Research in the Clinical Research Network - Use of routine data

Recruitment Optimisation Support Team (ROST) led by Mark Evans

The overall aim of the project was to engage with Local Authorities to explore the routine data they record and how this could be utilised for CRN Portfolio research. Our secondary aim was to see if we could identify opportunities where the ROST methods could be utilised in this different sector.

ROST staff development project - skills matrix for health informatics (HI) training

Recruitment Optimisation Support Team (ROST) led by Rebecca Harrison & Mark Evans

A primary care away day in 2018 identified a large variation in research facilitator (RF) skills across the the CRN WM team. One such skill, key to the RF role, is the use of GP practice systems to identify potentially eligible patients for research studies. Most GP practices use a system called EMIS Web.

An external EMIS Web trainer was sourced to deliver training to all RFs. However, the training was not adequate and received very poor feedback from the team. The Recruitment Optimisation Support Team (ROST) identified the continued need to deliver comprehensive EMIS Web training  with an overall aim to upskill, streamline, and provide consistency to RF EMIS Web skills across the primary care RF team.
