Grade 2 is a time full of adventure, learning, and growing. It's a year where children become independent, curious and confident in their abilities. They'll strengthen their reading, writing, and math skills while also exploring the world around them through science, social studies, and learning outdoors.
In Grade 2, friendships deepen, problem-solving skills blossom, and kids begin to see themselves as capable learners and caring classmates. It's an exciting time where every day brings new opportunities to discover, wonder and grow!
We are Bucket Fillers
We use the Bucket Fillers program to teach kindness, empathy, and positive behavior. The idea is that everyone carries an invisible “bucket.” When we say or do kind things, we fill someone’s bucket (and our own too). When we are unkind, we dip from someone’s bucket.
Students are encouraged to:
Show respect and kindness to others
Use positive words and actions
Notice and celebrate the good in others
Build a safe, caring classroom community
By practicing “bucket filling,” students learn that their choices affect others and that small acts of kindness make a big difference.
UFLI
UFLI is a literacy philosophy that helps students learn to read by breaking down words into phonetic patterns, but also identifying words that are irregular. We will be covering 1-2 lessons per week in class but home practice is greatly encouraged to enhance your child's reading abilities! These lessons will be our decoding and spelling program and your child will learn and practice spelling patterns and rules rather than the memorization of a word list.
