Charter SEED Days, formally known as "Ag Fun Days", are one thing that makes our school unique! SEED is an acronym for Seek, Explore, Experience and Discover. Throughout the school year there are afternoons scheduled where students work in multi-grade groups and rotate through 5 stations. Each SEED Day is based on a different agriculture and/or environmental theme. The stations are all hands-on and engaging for students to develop a deeper understanding of components of agriculture or the environment. Special guests and presenters often play an important role in these SEED Days as well. Students always get very excited to find out that a Charter SEED Day is coming up!
May 9- Spring Time and Ecosystems
The junior high students were away for this SEED Day. The Grade 6's stepped up and led the stations for the elementary kids. It was a mismatched focus this month but each station was beneficial in their own way!
Station 1: Recycle Relay- Students had to identify which category disposable items fit into. This was a great way to add movement to a very important concept!
Station 2: Bug Hotels- Students identified different bugs that live in our school yard. Collaboratively, students worked together to design a hotel for bugs using natural materials!
Station 3: Farm Mural- Art is such a positive way to showcase student's understanding of concepts. This was an open ended activity where students worked as a team to draw and create a farm mural on bulletin board paper.
Station 4: Seed Detective- This was a fun matching activity where students investigated an assortment of beans and seeds and tried to distinguish them based on a key.
Station 5: Literacy Station- Literacy is so important so it is always good to see new books be added to our library. For this SEED Day, students read stories about bees, different ecosystems, and even animal poetry!
