Grade 6 Read Alouds
The second novel of the year is none other than Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. This book is all about survival and important basic survval skills are. Can you think of a better novel that connects to our Charter at NHCS?! The students are having a hard time putting this book down.
Words Their Way
Grade 6 students are building on their previous knowledge of the Words Their Way program to further enhance their reading and writing abilities. The program allows students to work on their phonics, vocabulary, and spelling skills in order to become stronger and more confident in their language arts abilities.
IXL
NHCS has access to the IXL program which provides students personalized learning tailored to their unique learning needs. Grade 6 students will be able to use the program to better support their litearcy and numeracy abilities.
Announcements
In the Humble tradition, Grade 6 students are responsible for devising and sharing the daily announcements. In pairs, students deliver the local weather report, share the daily events happening at NHCS, and provide a fun, agricultural fact to share with the rest of the school. In doing so, we embody the school's motto: "At New Humble it's okay to not know, but it's not okay to not try."
