The Grade 3's have been reading the book, Charlotte's Web. Because they are enjoying it so much we made our own salt webs then painted them with watercolor. Students then chose a positive word to put in the middle. I think they turned our sharp!
Aurora Borealis
The Grade 5 students are learning about the Aurora Borealis in science class! They created their own representations of the Northern Lights using pastels and paint. After researching the colors visible in the sky during different times, they applied their findings to their artwork
Ear Tag Art
Grade 6 students have been enjoying some good ol' country music over the past month. They were tasked with interpreting their favourite song lyrics by illustrating an ear tag using fine-tip sharpie. Each tag was as unique as its artist.
Wooden Grain Elevators
Grade 6 students used tempera paint to create grain elevators during their Nineteen Something unit. Throughout the unit they have been looking back to the past to compare farming in the 1970s-80s to how it happens in 2025. Learning how wooden grain elevators worked also tied into our forces unit in Science.
Planet Art
We let our imagination go wild as we explored value in art. Students created their very own planets using chalk and paint. They had to ensure they used different light and shadowing to create a 3D sphere effect.
Watercolour Stained Glass
Grade 6 students are passionate about art in all forms, but watercolouring painting might be their current favourite. Creating country Christmas "stained glass art" with sharpies and watercolour paints was a great activity while practicing their Christmas concert song "Christmas in the Country."
Found Art - Animal Sculptures
Grade 4 and 5 have been learning about the three 'R's - reduce, reuse, and recycle. We used this as the opportunity to reuse garbage from our own homes to create pigs and cats for the school glo art walk.
Remembrance Day Poster Contest
New Humble had 5 recipients of awards for the annual poster contest put on by the Royal Canadian Legion Calmar Branch. Congratulations to Aubrey for winning first place in the Primary Colour category. Adria, Ryley, and Celeste received first, second, and third respectively for the Junior Colour category while Willow won first in the Junior Black & White category. Well done everyone and a big thank-you to Calmar Legion for your generosity!
The Wild Robot
Students in grade 3 have just finished the 3rd book of the Wild Robot. To wrap up this book, students made their own Wild Robot scenes. Check out what they came up with!
Harvest Art
Grade 3's harvested corn. To celebrate the harvest, we looked at photos of ornamental corn and created our very own renditions!

Grade 4 and 5 students challenged themselves to create pumpkin and carrot art in preparation for our very own harvest! We investigated all the different colours and shapes that these vegetables can come in before taking to paper to create our own.
Eric Carle Chickens
Kindergarten students developed chicken artwork in the style of Eric Carle. His art-making process is incredible! We followed it to create our own designs that honoured the barnyard animals that we learned about for our Division 1 Know Your Animal project.
The grade 5 class participated in the 2024 Ponoka Stampede Art Contest. Here are a few of their submissions. We now have to anxiously wait until June to find out who won the midway passes!
Grade 2 students were inspired to learn more about ecosystems after a brief conversation about human impact on nature. We learned about food webs, different ecosystems in Canada, and food chains. To showcase our learning, students made a craftivity showcasing a polar bears food chain.
Tree Pop-Up Cards
Kindergarten and Grade 2 students joined forces to create cards after checking out the incredile pop-up book In The Forest by Anouck Boisrobert and Louis Rigaud. They learned how adding two small cuts into the folded part of a card would provide a space to secure a cut-out tree to, resulting in their very own pop-up creations!
Truffala Trees
After reading The Lorax in Kindergarten we used cotton balls to create the unique texture needed for our truffala trees. We also incorporated construction paper into the design to practice using multiple methods in the creation of art.
Monochrome Backgrounds
Grade 1 students were learning about monochrome colors and shading techniques in art to create their winter night art piece.
Nature's Art Supplies
Kindergarten students collected natural materials that they could use to paint with. They tried sticks, rocks, and pinecones, but their favourite thing to use were bunches of evergreen needles.
Canada in my Pocket - Learning about Coins in Canada
Grade 2 students took to music to help us understand the significance of the symbols that are on our coins. As we dive deeper into learning how to count coins we will be going back to this song multiple times.
Grade 3 Digital Mosaics
To learn more about the functions of a Chromebook, students created farm themed digital mosaics.
Dichotomist Environments
Grade 3 students wrapped up their Earth Systems Science unit and to end off the unit they demonstrated their understanding of human impacts by drawing and comparing a "healthy" vs "unhealthy" environments!
