The main aim of my research is to investigate the impact of multiple environmental drivers upon the process of marine nitrogen fixation (diazotrophy). In order to achieve this aim a global climate model approach is being applied using the NEMO-PISCES ocean biogeochemical model. The research will assess and develop the current implementation of marine nitrogen fixation within the model. This will improve our understanding of spatial and temporal pattern of diazotrophy and allow us to assess the impact of climate change upon this process.
Marine nitrogen fixation provides a link between microbiology and large-scale ocean biogeochemistry, two fields which fascinate me.
