Professor of Climate Science

My research interests are in the variability of the tropical climate system and its representation in weather and climate models. I'm particular interested in intraseasonal variability; interactions between convection and the large-scale dynamics; and sub-seasonal prediction. As part of my role I lead the tropical climate research group in NCAS.

Why do you do what you do?

The safety and livelihoods of people living in the tropics are incredibly susceptible to variations in weather and climate. Improving our understanding of the tropical climate system; our ability to predict it and to interpret those predictions to provide useful information for decision making has enormous potential to improve lives in the tropics.
